In early 2010, I was gifted the opportunity to spend a little over a month living at the Cura Orphanage outside of Nairobi Kenya - a home for children who lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Expecting to find a place of sadness and despair, I was enveloped in a wave of warmth and love. A place of boundless need, but also a place of boundless hope. Their English was better than my Swahili, but it was the camera that allowed us to really see and understand each other.

I learned more than I could ever teach, and I truly felt like it was I who was the beneficiary of this time. I return now to live with these special children for another month. This site - these words, these images, these lives - they are the continuation of this journey.
